About East Lothian

East Lothian is one of Scotland's 32 council areas, as well as a historic county, registration county, and lieutenancy area. Previously known as Haddingtonshire until 1921, the county was integrated into Lothian Region as East Lothian District for local government in 1975, with minor boundary adjustments. The area was officially recognized as East Lothian in 1994 under the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act, establishing it as a modern council area.
