See residential workBorthwick covers Glasgow from the Victorian villas of the West End and Southside through city-centre offices and hospitality on Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street, out to the new-build estates of Bearsden and Newton Mearns.
Borthwick Decorators works across Glasgow from a long Scottish heritage. We handle Victorian sandstone tenements in the West End and Southside, hand-painted kitchens for Hyndland and Pollokshields private clients, commercial fit-outs across Merchant City and Finnieston, and exterior coatings on Glasgow stone.
Glasgow is a Victorian sandstone city built on shipbuilding and trade. The grid of the city centre, the bay-windowed tenements of the West End, the red sandstone of Pollokshields and Hyndland — all of it asks for a different hand than Edinburgh’s rendered Georgian stock. The stone is more porous; the weather is wetter; the paint specifications shift accordingly.
Borthwick has worked across Glasgow for decades — four-in-a-block villas in Bearsden, common-stair programmes off Great Western Road, hospitality work in the Merchant City. Our Glasgow foremen know which tenements have load-bearing common gables, which paints survive a Glasgow winter on a north-facing elevation, and which factors require fortnightly photo updates.

We’ve worked across Glasgow for decades — long enough that our foremen know which factors take a phone call and which need an email trail, which streets the council will scaffold on a Wednesday but not a Friday, and which Victorian tenements have plaster you can sand and which have plaster you cannot.
One foreman per project. Never sub-contracted. Same trade since 1959.
Borthwick has worked on Glasgow’s listed Victorian tenements and West End sandstone properties since 1959 — a multi-award-winning, Painting and Decorating Association member firm with Scotland Trusted Trader accreditation. Glasgow’s porous Victorian sandstone takes its own specification — our exterior painters in Glasgow use breathable masonry systems built for a wet west-coast winter.
