Who we are

Borthwick Decorators is a family-run painting and decorating firm. We started in Scotland in 1959 and we still work the same way today: qualified, employed decorators — not subcontracted labour — who turn up when we say we will, keep the site clean, and finish to the standard we would want in our own homes.

From our main office on George Street in Edinburgh we cover the whole of Scotland, with offices in Glasgow, Perth, Stirling, Dundee and Crieff, and a London office serving the capital. That spread lets us take on anything from a single front room to a country estate or a multi-site commercial programme.

What we do

We cover every part of interior and exterior decorating — walls, ceilings, woodwork, metalwork, wallpaper hanging and specialist finishes — for both homes and commercial property. We paint period townhouses and listed buildings, new builds, shops, offices, hotels, schools and common stairs. Where a job calls for it, we restore sash windows and work to conservation and listed-building consents rather than around them.

How we work

You get a fixed quote before we start, the same team on your job from first day to last, and a tidy, dust-managed site you can live or trade around. We are happy to work out of hours — evenings, nights and weekends — where that keeps a home or a business running, and we will advise on colour and finish when you want a steer.

Accredited and insured

We are accredited by the Painting & Decorating Association and the Scottish Decorators Federation, and hold CHAS, SafeContractor, SMAS, PASMA and IPAF accreditations. We are an Edinburgh Trusted Trader, and we carry public and employers' liability insurance up to £10 million. See all our accreditations →
